From Tórshavn, the small and characterful capital of the Faroe Islands, we set course east. On the first day, we will probably sail to Klaksvík, a shorter leg that gives everyone a chance to get to know the yacht and crew. In the afternoon, we can prepare for the crossing and still enjoy a little more of the Faroe Islands. A lovely hike to the summit of Klakkur offers fantastic views over Klaksvík, the surrounding fjords and the impressive mountains of the islands. It is the perfect way to stretch our legs before setting off on the long passage.
We then leave the Faroe Islands behind and begin the crossing to Norway. We sail day and night using a watch system, with everyone actively involved in sailing, navigation and keeping lookout. Depending on the wind and weather conditions, we will cover at least 350 nautical miles across the North Atlantic.
During the passage, we use a three-watch system: three hours on watch followed by six hours off. This helps everyone stay rested and alert. Those who wish to can get involved in navigation, sailing, radar and AIS operation, or simply enjoy life at sea.
After several days at sea, we reach the Norwegian coast. If conditions allow, we head for Sandøy, an island off the west coast of Norway. After the open ocean, it is a pleasure to find shelter among the islands and see the Norwegian coastline emerge. There is time to recover from the passage and stretch our legs with a walk along the coast and through the characteristic Norwegian landscape.
We finish in Ålesund, an atmospheric coastal town known for its distinctive Art Nouveau architecture and its location among islands and fjords. The route along the Norwegian coast is beautiful, with steep mountains, sheltered waters and numerous islands. If time allows, we will also hike up to Aksla, the well-known viewpoint above the town. We climb the long staircase to the top, where we are rewarded with fantastic views over Ålesund, the surrounding islands and the fjords. Depending on the time available and the weather, we may make another worthwhile stop along the way, either in the Faroe Islands or on the Norwegian coast.
This sailing voyage combines a genuine offshore passage with a little sightseeing in the spectacular Faroe Islands and along the Norwegian coast. You will experience the rhythm of several days at sea, working watches and navigating in changing conditions. We finish in Ålesund, where, if time permits, we can stretch our legs and enjoy the views over the town and fjords from Aksla.
Daily distances range from short coastal legs of around 25 nautical miles to an offshore passage of approximately 350 nautical miles. The route and stops depend on the wind, weather and conditions at sea. The itinerary is therefore a guideline, and we may change it whenever conditions require.

The price is the rental cost for the ship with crew, including food and drinks on board, hence full board. The price mentioned is per person.
Included in the price:
– Food and drinks on board.
– Fuel, water, shore power, harbour fees and tourist tax.
– 1 towel set and bedding incl. duvet and, of course, a life jacket.
– For after sailing there is also wine and beer on board, based on average use. Should we run out, then you can purchase more yourself.
Not included:
– Your transfer, meaning your journey to and from the ship
– Sailing clothes and boots, you can rent these from us if you would like.
– Possible shore excursions such as renting a van, or visiting a museum etc.
– Food and drinks ashore, the last evening we will go out for dinner and this will be at your own expense. ( Should you wish to treat the crew as a thank you for a lovely sailing holiday, it would of course be greatly appreciated!)
– Optional tips. These are, of course, entirely voluntary, but always appreciated. Any tips are shared between the skipper and crew, because the skipper is just as much a part of the team that makes the voyage possible. Contrary to what many guests assume, the Bosun/cook on board Cherokee is actually the highest-paid member of the crew.
Duration & Time on Board
The listed trip duration refers to full calendar days. Since you embark on the first evening and disembark on the final morning, your actual time on board is on average about 1.5 days shorter. We use this format to keep our trips comparable with other providers – but we like to be transparent about the real time you’ll spend on board.

If you would like more information on private charter, please contact us.
If you are a solo traveler and would like the comfort of a private cabin (room), you can reserve it for 1.6 times the price (for crossings, it will be 1.9x).

★★★★★
